| Walmsley must be favourite to finish the season in 2 categories, the most tackle busts and the most metres.
Also our front row gained around 470 metres between them, impressive stuff. Against a lesser team I can see the front row creating some kind of record for metres gained between them in a match.
If Walmsley keeps improving.........who needs Sam Burgess for England.

470 meters from our front row is pretty good, especially when you take into account both props had long spells off the field. We've got Mose due back who will add big meters to that.
I'd love to hear the opinion of them who voted wello our 3rd best player with his stats. Must have been watching another game to me.

The best thing wello brings this year can't been shown in stats, his shouting, yelling, gesticulating and general talking on the pitch played a big part in the turn around according to certain people.
Look at how Warrington have played in the opening games this season, after losing all the players who would shout and yell and scream in one off season. Rudderless!
We are learning to play without him and pass that responsibility on, as well as using him to steady the ship when needed, or launch a rocket!
None of that is a physical contribution though.

Complete and utter balls, all of it. Wello was brought on after 68 minutes against Warrington, when the game was well and truly won. He did nothing.
People saying Wello is there for his captaincy are wrong. He's never been a good captain, I'll go as far as saying him being on the field has been a major reason we're 0 for trophies in the past 7 years. He's a massively negative influence with his arm flapping, gesticulating (The only gesticulating he has ever done is at referees when he's having a paddy) and sulking, forgetting entirely that he's an absolutely terrible player.
If you want to allocate praise for the decent start we've had, allocate it to Luke Walsh, to Amor, Roby, Sia and to Walmsley. It's our pack plus Walsh (You can even give a bit of praise to Wheeler for adding a bit of balance in the halves) that is responsible for the better start, not the fact that Wello is selfishly stealing a shirt based on past glories that are now knocking on for a decade ago.

You could hear his voice from the back of the West Stand on Friday night and the intensity levels certainly lifted. Exactly what you want from your captain.

I am SHOCKED you don't agree about wellens saddened
I never mentioned his contribution at Warrington - I said against hull he (and brown) were one half the reason we were able to turn it around - the other half were the players you mentioned. I'm not taking anything away from Roby, sia, Amor et al they performed when needed in the second half - but they needed a rocket and they got one (and how many times did you watch last year and think "I hope they get a rocket at half time, because were still in this we just need to perform" and they didn't)
Clearly, if you think wellens is a negative influence on the team, you can't see anything wellens does as good - if he was (like certain other club legends were ... ) why would we keep him as a coach after he retires? And no, the answer isn't sentiment. Otherwise a certain mr. Long would still be at the club ...

| Our composure improved when Wellens came on the field. He is our version of Mike Brierley was to cricket England.
He was constantly communicating with Walshy and Wilkin who by coincidence had better performance in the second half.

I believe we play with 16 men with him on the bench. He shouldn't be In the 17. I don't see what he offers at all.

| I can see the point being made that he provides leadership. However there are a whole 16 other players that need to start taking some of the leadership role.
What we are saying is that in terms of game contribution physically and positionally there are better players. But in terms of managing a set of players on the field we have just Wellens.
I do get it, the back line is very young so not likely to be very vocal. I've never seen Roby or Sia really talking to the other players. LMS does but whether he has the tactical awareness I'm not sure. Walsh would be the obvious choice but is still the new guy and Wilkin.
I get the point but I'm not sure it's valid and if it is then some of the players who should be leaders need to start taking up the mantle a bit. We can't all be pally someone has to be the one who is not afraid to speak out in a game and tell others to get their act into gear.

| I missed the game due to a wedding.
Now, we were behind at half time and played a lot better in the second half.
Hull, reversely, apparently struggled in the second half as their kicking game faltered.
Question -
Was there a [ivery[/i strong wind that we were playing into in the first half and with us in the second?

I agree with this, and to be honest if we're seeing as much as wellens at the end of the season as we are now, I'd be disappointed.
If you think back to when Sculthorpe long Cunningham retired, (who were all huge voices of the team) it was a case of one day they were there and one day they weren't - whilst we brought in the players to fill the physical position, the loud voices weren't properly filled, and one of the major reasons it's taken us this long to recover imo.
We risk doing the same with wellens, but I think brown is trying to phase him out, and trying to coax other players to be the one to give a rocket! When that happens, we'll see wellens dropping out of the 17 (I hope and imagine)

| I think the difference was when Sculthorpe left, Long and Cunningham and Wellens where still there.
Graham stepped up but no one else. I'm not for loud mouths, but you have to have a couple of dominate voices not just one.
It all goes back to losing Kyle and Graham. Both could direct a team. Everyone else was happy for them to take charge and when they went they were neither replaced nor did anyone step up.
But for me Wilkin should be making this his role, although actually he would not make my 17. Lomax too should start barking the orders from FB. I like it that LMS can give off, but I have no idea how game aware he is.

| The ideal candidate would have been Roby but I don't think he has it in him to do the job.
Hopefully Walshy can do the role once he settles in with Wilkin second in command.

It didnt seem that strong tbh. For me we dropped intensity when Walmesley came off after about 10 mins, and again when Amor came off at about 30. Without those two on, we got busted in the forwards. Lafranchi is no prop, absolutely put to shame by Walmesley and Amor

| We have been fairly rudderless for years and whilst Wellens tries - I would say it is not something that is natural to him ( Graham , Scully , Farrell where born leaders). I would put Wello more in a Joynt category as a respected player others look up to, hence thrown in to leadership.
For me Walsh is the man to LEAD us forward , he's currently quite happy to point people to where they should be - it will be interesting to see what he is like when things aren't going so well - will he step up a dish out the necessary.

The turning point is we started to get go forward with walmsley and Amor leading the way. Obviously good go forward gets you up the field and in scoring positions and we took our chances.
