There have been a few high profile NRL players going through the same and eventually ending up with no case or not guilty. So we won't know the reasoning behind the CPS decision until the court case.
But its very disappointing and good on the Club for exercising the clause which is written into all modern day sports contracts, which while it looks delayed they have to wait until it becomes public by the Authorities to avoid prejudging the case and possible legal action by both sides

I think it's more of a case of Salford offloading players to cut their outgoing costs. A transfer fee may not be involved.
